BOARDGAME PBL PROJECT
Topic / Big picture
By learning about the different ages of technology through time, engineering students discussed the 9 historical time periods: Paleolithic Age, Mesolithic Age, Neolithic Age, Bronze Age, Iron Age, Middle Ages, Renaissance, Industrial Age, and Information Age. Base on this information students consider the information gain through class and focus on just one era. Using this era they are to design, create a prototype, CAD and follow the 9 steps of the engineering design process to answer 5 things about this project " the boardgame" . Problem, solution, evidence of work, sources, and their honest feedback.
The big picture is to learn about the differnt eras of technology and to create a boardgame based on that particular era of their interest. Game project boardgame must be completly custom design and created by them.
Their procedure:
The big picture is to learn about the differnt eras of technology and to create a boardgame based on that particular era of their interest. Game project boardgame must be completly custom design and created by them.
Their procedure:
- Conclude your research on the historical period.
- Catalogue the information you will use for the board game.
- Determine the most appropriate board game to redesign.
- Develop instructions and questions which reflect the history of technology.
- Reflect on the social, cultural, political, and economic impacts the development had upon society.
- Complete APA or MLA citations for all resources.
- post all of their original work on their own website.
Learning Objectives
Purpose of Lesson: Unit 1, Lesson 1 introduces the evolutionary process of technological development through the historical periods of technology.
Exploration: Students will research one of the nine historical stages of technological development (Paleolithic Age, Mesolithic Age, Neolithic Age, Bronze Age, Iron Age, Middle Ages, Renaissance, Industrial Age, and Information Age) to identify important technological developments of the era and how those developments impacted the lives of people (File 1.1.2).
STL
- Understanding the influence of technology on history
- Most technological development has been evolutionary, the result of a series of refinements to a basic invention.
- Early in the history of technology, the development of many tools and machines was based not on scientific knowledge but on technological know-how.
